Readpal Reader aims to make on-screen reading more pleasant and efficient, by presenting you with aformatted version of a document that is designed for easy reading, using large fonts on a dark background (customizable) and excludes all images. It works with Internet Explorer, Outlook, Outlook Express and MS Word and adds an extra button to the title bar, that you can click on to launch the Readpal version of the current document. You can choose between different layouts, using one or two columns, as well as sentence by sentence display or an auto-skim mode that automatically omits common words thereby compacting the text while maintaining the overall content. We could not see much advantage in using Readpal Reader, in fact web page content was often cluttered with error messages and navigation text, making it actually harder to read. Readpal Reader may be worth a try for visually impaired users, or people that are having problems navigating through documents or emails. Unfortunatelythe program only works with a few Microsoft applications, so the usability is limited. |
