Pong is a desktop application that allows users to ping up to 14 Web services at once with notifications about updated blogs and feeds. Pong has built-in mechanisms to avoid unnecessary pings from entering the system. It evaluates the format of the URL that the user enters and checks the HTTP response code at the location of the blog and feed URLs prior to forwarding any pings. Based upon feedbackfrom representatives of nearly all of the Web services that are included in the application, a lockmechanism is incorporated in the application in order to prevent abuse of the ping system while still maintaining a responsive, functional application. |
